The Sunshine State’s lawmakers have passed a $196 million tax relief package that includes a third tax holiday, new credits and exemptions for charitable contributions, and assistance for people with disabilities to purchase items that help them live independently. The package was put together by the House Ways & Means Committee and passed 117 to one, with the lone dissenter being Rep. Omari Hardy. The bill will now be presented to Gov. Ron DeSantis for approval.

The tax relief package is expected to reduce gas prices by about 25 cents a gallon in Florida and save people an estimated $1.1 billion. However, the biggest announcement aimed at families was the accelerated start of a one-year tax break on clothing and diapers. The change will also cover reusable diapers and diaper inserts. The law will help many Florida families, but critics say it will be hard to make it work.

The new law also offers other tax breaks for families and individuals. Florida legislators recently agreed to suspend its gas tax for one month. This is expected to save motorists in Jacksonville an estimated $65 a year. Additionally, some insurance policies will see their premiums reduced as well. Many of these provisions will take effect on July 1. The full list of tax-free items can be found online. These tax breaks are available to everyone, including the poor.

House Bill 7071 provides $1.2 billion in tax relief. The bill includes several sales tax holidays and an expansion of the motor fuel tax credit. It will also allow residents to save money on fuel, clothing, diapers, and disaster supplies. The bill will help families in Florida pay more of their bills on a regular basis. The new law will also save them money on the things they need for day-to-day living, like gas, food, and tools.
